The mountains of Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-gent are collectively known as the Yorkshire Three Peaks. But it will come as a surprise to many that they are not the three highest peaks in Yorkshire. This honour goes to Mickle Fell, Whernside and Ingleborough.
I spent a night on Whernside on 23/24 November 2010 as part of a challenge to sleep on the seven extreme points of Yorkshire. This included the four extreme points in addition to the tops of the Three Ridings. Whernside is the highest point of the West Riding but it is most certainly not the highest point of Yorkshire.
